How should the new Languedoc Roussillon- Midi Pyrénées region be called ?
From 9th May to 10th June 2016, the population and the diaspora of the former Languedoc-Roussillon and Midi-Pyrénées French administrative regions will be called upon to vote by email to choose a new name for the new region, which is the result of the 2015 territorial reform. The names accepted by the regional council are: «Languedoc», «Languedoc-Pyrénées», «Occitanie», «Occitanie-Pays Catalan» et «Pyrénées-Méditerranée».
The Occitan Nation Party wishes to reiterate that it was and still is in favour of «Occitanie Centrale» (Central Occitania), especially to emphasize that Occitania is much bigger than this new region. It also recalls its critique of the new regional division, and in particular its support for the North-Catalan demand for a specific territorial collectivity, that would therefore be separate from this new region.
Since the proposal made by the Occitan Nation Party has not been accepted by the regional council, the party calls on people to vote for «Occitanie» or «Occitanie-Pays Catalan».
